Six Ways the Baseball Injury Report Will Help You Win in 2008!

1. Reduce Your Draft Day Risk by Avoiding Injury Situations That Will Damage Your Chances to Win in 2008

Draft Day is always full of surprises. Get the most of your draft day preparation by avoiding players who will not live up to their projections due to injury situations. Use accurate injury information to draft players whose value has declined making them bargains and good investments for your roster. Get a true reading on position scarcity. Use hidden injury risks to your advantage when developing your draft strategy.

Pre Draft Day Analysis...

Carl Monroe (OF, DET)
It looks like the patellar tendinitis in his left knee will be an issue all season long. Look for a noticeable drop in his power because of this chronic ailment.

Monroe recorded 28 HRs in 2006 and 12 in 2007.

Anibal Sanchez (RHP, FLA)
He developed pain in his pitching shoulder in January 2007. He was shutdown then resumed throwing in spring training. Now the inside word is his shoulder is bothering him and he may be sent to the minors. All the evidence says he is damaged goods. Sanchez is a Warning Flag candidate in 2007 and should be avoided at all cost!

Sanchez missed the entire 2007 season and underwent labrum surgery in June 2007.

2. Adjust Your Strategies Due to Underperformance From Injuries

Injuries are the major reason for player underperformance every season. We'll help you spot the underperformers before draft day through the season. Don't finalize your draft lists until you know who the underperformers will be in 2008. Then you can let your competitors over pay for overvalued players. Greatly increasing you odds of winning with players who will perform up to expectations. Once the season starts, you'll know which players in the free pool you should avoid due to injuries. At the trading deadline, get the most out of players being shopped by avoiding the ones who will underperform down the stretch due to hidden injuries.

Before the Draft...

Rich Harden (RHP, OAK)
Harden looks like the 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner based on his ST dominance. Yet his recent injury history raises a huge caution flag. We're betting he has more injury trouble in 2007 so bid with caution on Draft Day.

Harden managed just 25 IP as he was plagued by shoulder woes all season.

During the 2007 Season...

Scott Rolen (3B, STL)
After talking to one Midwest veteran baseball source yesterday, we are convinced his continuing left shoulder problems are more serious than we are led to believe. Contrary to some reports in the main stream media, Rolen will not bounce back in 2007; his owners should be ready to replace him.

4. Spot Playing Time Opportunities Due to Injuries

Get the jump on your competitors with injury information that reveals potential playing time opportunities before anyone else discovers them in your league.

Bill Mueller (3B, LAD)
It has been a little over two weeks since Mueller underwent surgery to repair cartilage damage in his right knee. He is struggling to get some of the swelling out of the knee, not uncommon for a player who has had several surgeries on the same knee as Mueller has. The Dodgers felt he would return in four, maybe five weeks.

His season long injury had a ripple effect throughout the infield. The Dodgers were forced to use Nomar at third opening up more PT at first base for James Loney.

5. Take Advantage of Performance Surpluses and Shortages on Your League Rosters

Get an accurate read on your roster and your competitor's by spotting category surpluses and shortages before your competitors do. Injury news can and will hide accurate projections due to injury situations. Manage your roster more effective knowing the real strength and weaknesses of your competitors.

Scott Podsednik (OF, CHW)
Podsednik is back from the DL and the strained adductor muscle that cost him a little over two months reportedly is healed. He continues to break down physically and it will be a miracle if he is able to break the 20 SB plateau let alone the 30-40 range that most predicted in the spring.

Podsednik played in just 62 games and stole just 12 bases in 2007.

6. Breaking News

We'll get critical injury reports to you when you need them including exclusive reports like our scoop on Felix Hernandez in April 2007:

Felix Hernandez (RHP, SEA)
Tests on his pitching elbow revealed a flexor pronator strain in his pitching elbow. He will not throw a baseball for five days then he'll be re-evaluated. The good news here is there is no involvement with his ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. The early projection says he'll miss two starts with a decision as to whether he goes on the DL yet to be made. It does not look like a serious injury and Hernandez was wise to notify the team after the first pitch he felt the tightness.

BIR was the first source to break the story Hernandez was not seriously hurt on April 19 and would not need surgery.
